BLM May Allow Geothermal Development in Canyon
Written by Neale Shour

The Bureau of Land Management will hold a competitive lease sale for a parcel of land consisting of nearly 800 acres in the Mount Princeton hot springs area. This area is identified to hold an underground reservoir capable of producing geothermal energy.

A website has been established by private citizens to help inform the public about the lease, laws involved in the lease and potential projects that may or may not benefit the canyon and Chaffee County residents.

Mystery at Chalk Creek 8-17-09
Written by Neale Shour

NBC's Dateline will be airing a mystery that took place in the Chalk Creek Canyon some years ago. This excerpt from their website....

It was a story that seemed to tell itself: the body of a woman, found in a creek below a slippery ledge in a place where hikers have fatal accidents all too often. She was a newlywed who'd just found love again after a painful divorce. A tragic accident, her family thought -- at first. But after her funeral, suspicions emerged: Was this really an accidental fall? Or could it have been something else?

What began as an afternoon fishing trip would later become a hunt to learn the truth of what happened that day. NBC's Dennis Murphy reports on "The Mystery at Chalk Creek."

The program was aired on 8/17/09 and can be viewed online at...

A Ghost Story, a Cemetery and a Mudslide
Written by Mark Hanway

Earlier this year my mom gave me the great news that she was able to rent out the cabin (The Silver Phantom Ranch) my grandparents used to co-own for two whole weeks in July!  I was ecstatic this was the place that Amy heard about for the last 17 years and my family was finally going to see what all the fuss was about.  About a month ago the lady that now owns the Silver Phantom Ranch is having serious health issues and had to cancel our reservation.  We found another place down the road and we going to be able to spend a week instead of two.  Things were still great.
